流鏑馬神事を見に行く最適時間と神事の流れを紹介
流鏑馬は、1187年の放生会に奉納したのが始まりと伝えられます。武術と弓術をあわせもった最高の武術とされ、境内の流鏑馬馬場において、鎌倉時代さながらの狩装束に身を包んだ射手が、約70メートルの馬場を馬で駆け抜けながら３つの的を射抜く勇壮な神事で、源頼朝の時代より続き、約800年の伝統を受け継いでいます。
9月の流鏑馬神事は、弓馬術礼法小笠原教場宗家以下一門により行われます。

流鏑馬神事：13時開始
場所を確保するなら、午前10時ごろに到着するのが安心です（2023年の状況）。
神事は13時に始まりますが、実際に騎手と馬が走り出すのは14時ごろ。そのため、待ち時間はおよそ4時間ほどになります。
席を確保したまま長時間あけることも出来ないので、シートや簡易イスを持参し、お弁当や本などで時間をつぶせるようにしておくことをお勧めします。シートを敷いたままトイレに行く程度なら大丈夫ですが、長時間席を離れるのはマナー違反だと思います。
見学場所によっては、背中から直射日光を浴びるので、日焼け止め対策は必須です。クリームを塗るだけでなく、首を守る布やタオルも用意すると安心です。
この時期はまだまだ暑いです。
日傘は周りに人が多いのでちょっと迷惑になっちゃうかも・・
最近の簡易型の椅子は便利ですね。
13時から神事が始まります。流鏑馬馬場に座っているので神事を見ることが出来ません。たぶん舞殿で行われているのかしら？？
神事が終わると研修道場のほうへ移動します。
古式にのっとった衣装で馬に乗っての移動も壮観です。
14時頃：スタートです！
1の的、２の的、３の的と矢を射たあとまた、戻ってきます。
戻ってくる際に軽く頭を下げます。
おすすめの場所
- 一の的付近 … スタートを見たい人におすすめ
- 二の的付近 … 馬が駆け抜ける迫力を感じたい人におすすめ（二の的あとに座っているとNHKが取材に来ることもあるのでTVニュースに映ることも）
- 三の的付近 … ゴールをしっかり見届けたい人におすすめ
- 個人的には、下記の動画の辺りがお勧めです。（鶴岡幼稚園の門の前あたり）
以前は参道を駆け抜ける馬を直接見ることができましたが、近年は幕が張られるようになり、見づらくなっているようです。
15時過ぎ流鏑馬神事は終了です。お馬さんも帰って行きます、最後はみんなで集合写真。

鶴岡八幡宮境内の化粧室の場所です。舞殿の横の休憩所の化粧室は結構混んでいます。個人的に穴場は国宝館にある化粧室です。あまり知られてないので比較的空いている気がしますが、国宝館を利用した人のみが利用可能です。

The restroom at the rest area next to Maiden is relatively crowded.Personally, I think the hidden gem is the restroom inside the National Treasure Hall. It’s relatively unknown, so it tends to be less crowded. However, it’s only available to those who have visited the National Treasure Hall.

Yabusame（Horseback Archery Ritual）
Yabusame is said to have originated in 1187, when it was dedicated at the Hōjō-e ritual. Regarded as the highest form of martial art combining horsemanship and archery, this powerful Shinto ritual is performed on the shrine’s yabusame course.
Archers dressed in hunting costumes reminiscent of the Kamakura period gallop on horseback along a course of about 70 meters, shooting three targets in succession. Passed down since the time of Minamoto no Yoritomo, Yabusame carries on a tradition of nearly 800 years.

The Yabusame ritual will begin at 1:00 PM
.
If you want to secure a good viewing spot, it’s best to arrive around 10:00 AM (based on the situation in 2023). While the Yabusame ritual officially begins at 1:00 PM, the riders and horses typically start moving around 2:00 PM.
This means there will be about four hours of waiting time.
We recommend bringing a sheet or a portable chair, as well as a lunchbox, a book, or something to help pass the time.
It’s generally acceptable to leave your sheet unattended briefly to use the restroom, but leaving your spot for an extended period is considered poor manners.
Depending on where you sit, you may be exposed to direct sunlight on your back, so sun protection is essential. In addition to sunscreen, it’s a good idea to bring a cloth or towel to cover your neck. The event usually finishes around 3:00 PM.
