【Kenchō-ji Temple】
The cherry blossoms in front of the temple’s main gate create a stunning scene.
Blooming times vary each year, but the sight is at its most beautiful when the flowers are in full bloom.

【Enkaku-ji Temple】
Engaku-ji Temple, ranked second among the Five Great Zen Temples of Kamakura, is also known for its beautiful cherry blossoms.

【Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine】
The cherry blossoms at Genji Pond and along Dankazura are essential highlights of Kamakura.
No visit to the city is complete without seeing these iconic spots.
Dankazura is especially beautiful in the evening.

We highly recommend experiencing it for yourself at least once.

【The street in front of Hokke-dō Hall】
Cherry blossoms bloom along the road leading from Tsurugaoka Hachimangū Shrine to Hokke-dō Hall.
To be honest, I secretly think this might be the most beautiful spot in Kamakura.

【Hōkai-ji Temple】
The cherry blossoms along this temple’s approach are also very photogenic.

Known as “Higashi Minobu,” this temple features stunning weeping cherry trees and Sato-zakura by the main hall.
The cherry blossoms can be enjoyed until late April.

【Ankokuron-ji Temple and its back area
The famous Myōhō-zakura, officially called Ichihara Tora-no-o, features a unique appearance with a double-layered blossom and a single pistil protruding from the center. You can also see weeping cherry trees and Somei Yoshino near the main gate and beside the main hall.

If you follow the path behind Ankokuron-ji, you’ll find the well of Renshōnin’s Inkstone Water (Renshōnin Gokenmi-sui no Ido) and the Keshōkutsu cave, where beautiful cherry blossoms can also be found.

This photo was taken on March 27, 2022.

【Kōmyō-ji Temple
There aren’t many cherry trees, but the cherry blossoms near the main gate are a spectacular sight. The cherry blossoms near the main hall are also recommended.

【Kamakura-yama】
The cherry blossoms at Kamakurayama have been famous for a long time. The trees may be a bit older now, but walking or driving under the cherry-lined streets is truly wonderful. They are beautiful even on rainy days.

【Kuzuharagaoka Shrine & Genjiyama】
The cherry blossoms at Kuzuharagaoka Shrine, dedicated to Hino Toshimoto, and at Genjiyama, where there is a statue of Minamoto no Yoritomo, are also highlights.
Along the path from the back of Genjiyama leading to Jufuku-ji Temple, you’ll find the graves of Eishō-ji Temple, where cherry blossoms can be seen as well.

【Gokuraku-ji Temple】
The cherry trees along the approach after entering the main gate are truly impressive. There is also a tree known as the KiriGaya-zakura (also called Mikurumagaeshi), which produces both single and double blossoms on the same branch.
