円覚寺の開山国師毎歳忌とは

円覚寺の開山・無学祖元禅師のご命日の法要です。禅師は北条時宗公の招きにより宋から来日し、建長寺第5世を経て時宗公が建立した円覚寺の開山に迎えられました。舎利殿での読経ののち、仏殿に移動し、須弥壇に安置された開山・仏光国師像の前で読経。最後に方丈へ移動し「四ッ頭」と呼ばれる儀式を行います。開山様の描かれた掛け軸を掲げてそれにお膳を捧げ、その前で大勢の僧が、開山様とご一緒に食事するという儀式です。（出典：円覚寺ホームページ）

10月3日 10時から　舎利殿・仏殿

2020年に参拝してきました。2020年は四年に一度の「巡堂」という儀式でした。一山の僧侶が舎利殿に集まり約１時間法会を行った後、開山様のお像を輿に載せて、境内を一周いたします。
正続院を出て仏殿の裏側から山門の方へ向かいます。山門でお経を唱えられあと、山門を回るかたちで仏殿に向かいます。
仏殿にて法要が執り行われ、終了のようです。
2020年はコロナ禍での実施のため密集にならないように、行事もかなり縮小して行ったとのことでした。

2021年に参拝した際は、10:45には終了してましたので、「巡堂」の年は長めで、それ以外の年は早く終わるのでしょうか？2025年は「巡堂」はないので、早く終了するかと思われますので、早めに到着されているのがよいと思います。
次回の「巡堂」は、2028年ですね。

最近はきちんとお参りしない（見ていない）で写真ばかりとっていて悲しいというようなことを　横田南嶺管長が以前書かれておりましたが、反省です。（って撮ってるじゃんと言われそうです）

円覚寺の拝観券も以前は境内に捨てられていることが多かったそうです。捨てられないようにカラーにしたり、季節ごとに変えたり、裏には短い法話（法話も何種類かあるそうです）を入れるようにしてみたそうです。今度は集めてみたいと思います。（出典：円覚寺管長のページ 2020年10月4日）

On October 3rd, starting from 10:00 AM at the Shariden & Butsuden

I visited in 2020, when the special “Jun-dō” ceremony, held once every four years, took place. All the monks gathered at the Shariden for about an hour of prayers. Afterward, the statue of the temple’s founder was placed on a palanquin and carried around the temple grounds.

The procession started from Shozoku-in Temple, moved toward the back side of the Butsuden, and then to the Sanmon. At the Sanmon, a prayer was recited, and then the procession circled around the gate and returned to the Butsuden. A memorial service was held at the Butsuden, which marked the end of the ceremony.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the event was greatly reduced to avoid crowding.
When I visited in 2021, the ceremony had finished by around 10:45 AM, so it seems that the “Jun-dō” ceremony takes longer, while the ceremonies in other years may finish earlier. Since there will be no “Jun-dō” in 2025, the ceremony will likely finish earlier, so it’s best to arrive early.
The next “Jun-dō” ceremony will be in 2028.
